Really excited for the new transit hub! Wondering if there's been any discussion around the large green space between Central station and the hub building? Is the land not suited for development for some reason? I'm all for green space, but in this location it looks like it's just pushing the elements of the hub further apart

I thought the same when I looked at it. I think I had always imagined the building closer to the road and the green space behind. I 'think' I heard there's still the possibility to build some density on this spot (ie. residential) at a later phase so I wouldn't think there was a reason they couldn't build on that part. I'll look into it and see what I can find out.

I had the same thought in my mind the first time I heard about the transit hub... kind of like you would get off Central Station and the hub would be right there. Hoping that even if they keep them apart, then the path will have some kind of shade / wind cover!

I appreciate your updates Melissa. I have a question about bathrooms: Does the work being done upgrading parks and greenspaces include the addition of bathroom facilities (incl. portables)? It is frustrating that there are no facilities at tennis courts or trails. Does the new transit hub include bathrooms?

I can't speak to the Transit Hub (but there better be washrooms in there!) but most of the parks don't include access to washrooms and it's really unfortunate. I read a really interesting book called "No Place To Go" by Lezlie Lowe who does a really great job at highlighting how the lack of access to public washrooms is a real equity issues - one which most municipalities are failing badly on.

Thanks as always Melissa! I'm also intrigued to see the renderings of the Transit Hub, and I'm even _more_ intrigued by the sudden departure of WRDSB's director, so I'll be staying tuned for next episode!

The Region is to be congratulated on surpassing its goal, but with the most recent count (and 9000 on the waiting list) the problem is multiplying faster than housing can ever be built. When will our funding go to addressing root causes instead of bloated Police Services?

Indeed. I think the province is really failing us on this too, in that they need to better fund supports within their mandate that would help alleviate some of these challenges instead of figuring out ways to criminalize encampment residents.
