The optimist in me wants to believe that peoples comments about a particular development “increasing traffic in an already congested area” are just surface level screams speaking over a much deeper need of “help! We need more options in this area to get around beyond just driving”.

I have driven around in peak traffic hours, I despise and avoid it as far as possible. Driving out of the city in a car where one has to worry only about fuel is, I have found, a reasonably reliable method for alleviating the suffering caused due to the various forms of bigotry-induced toxicity (or bigotry directly) present in Waterloo city. The traffic lights here don't seem to make much sense. In peak hours, the lights don't seem to change in relation to traffic density - while at 3am in the morning, when there is barely any traffic around, drivers sit around at red lights allowing the surrounding environment to evolve to a state of greater entropy, one which is more conducive to a car traveling through the intersection. I have had ideas, while driving, of a traffic lights system which could measure load levels at an intersection, and communicate to surrounding intersections potential load levels, attempting to allow for as much uninterrupted flow of traffic as possible. With the amount of GPS-directed travel, it seems like it would be possible to file a "flight-plan" for a planned route and have that factored into calculations/estimations of the best possible combination of traffic management. But still, I would choose to bike as much as possible over a car.

Thank you 🙂
