Why ‘citified’?
Citified is defined as “relating to an urban style of living”. For the last several years, I have been learning and sharing about some of the issues that Waterloo Region (with a focus on Kitchener) residents are involved in within their city. I’d like this to be a space to dive a little deeper into those topics.
What to expect from Citified.
This is a new medium for me, so I suspect that what this looks like will evolve over time. I’m also very interested in hearing from readers and hope that your comments and interests will also shape this space. But essentially, I hope to share some thoughts, ideas, and questions on a variety of city issues such as housing, active transportation, and municipal politics. And, given that we are in a municipal election year, I will do my best to keep you updated on all of the latest news and information about who is running.
A little about me.
Nearly 15 years ago, I volunteered to sit on the newly created neighbourhood association in my newly built neighbourhood. Thus began my interest in how neighbourhoods and cities work. I started volunteering on all sorts of city committees and neighbourhood groups and by 2018, I put my name forward to run for Kitchener council (in ward 9). I finished second, but that experience further cemented my interest in city council discussions and decisions. On most Kitchener council nights, you can find me on Twitter, live-tweeting council meetings.
