I feel like this is a rare instance where that which is ordinarily carefully concealed from the public's view slips into sight momentarily. I have felt for a long while that the people here are always prepared to practice a politics which places privilege & power at a greater level of importance to ensure that they always have their way, rather than committed to a politics which adheres to morals, ethics, and protects humanity where they may not win all the time but their “losses” directly contribute to the reduction of suffering of people living here.
I find that the people who think that police budgets are the solution to anything will never address any form of human suffering, including their own, seriously or significantly.
Thank you for everything that you have shared on your social media and through Citified, Melissa. It is difficult to find a way to understand, observe, and participate in Canadian politics as a dark-skinned immigrant who doesn't think that he should have to exploit any form of privilege in order to secure education, livelihood, community, representation, love, and truth. What you have shared on social media and on Citified has helped me understand local politics better.
Very creative, Melissa! Nice to add a little humour to such a disgusting occurrence.
Happy New Year, Melissa! Thank you for your writing, including a poem. 😊
Happy New Year. 🤣
